Marpa Retreat Hut

Marpa Retreat Hut

The original retreat hut, built in 1977 is the smallest of the three solitary retreat huts and the most primitive. Facing east, it is located across the valley from the rest of the Monastery, with an extensive view across the hills towards the sea. The hut is simple in design, consisting of a small combination shrine/bedroom area with an adjoining kitchen. Sun is limited in the winter, so a gas heater is provided (gas for the heater is charged as an extra cost).

Hygiene facilities are basic, consisting of a long drop toilet and a camping solar shower bag for outside use. There is a gas cooker, with an adequate supply of saucepans, crockery and cutlery. Access to the main part of the monastery is a ten minute walk along Bodhisattva Road.
