Tsondu Retreat Hut

Tsondu Retreat Hut

Originally built as one of the huts used by the residents, Tsondu Hut was lived in for many years by long term residents of the monastery. As demand for retreat facilities grew, it was converted to a retreat hut in 1995 with the addition of another smaller adjacent hut as a kitchen. It is the only retreat hut with an inside shower (although one still needs to rely on the solar shower bag for hot water) and again a long drop toilet. The kitchen has a gas cooker. There is also a balcony area around the hut for outdoor sitting. It is located on the other side of the valley to the other solitary retreat huts and has a view across the valley. As it faces north it has good sun all year round. Nearby is one of the most scenic bush parts of the Monastery with extensive taraire trees and nikau palms.
