The Temple
was built in 1984 on the highest hill, in the traditional Tibetan style, with eight pillars and is the only one of its kind in New Zealand.  Inside is a shrine, with many statues and thangkas (religious paintings) and a complete set of the original teachings of the Buddha along with  commentaries, donated by HH 16th Karmapa.  Daily meditation sessions are conducted in the temple as well as various pujas and teachings.  Visitors are welcome to attend scheduled meditation or to spend time meditating or praying in the temple during the day.
